Honorable Harvest

Wolf says
“I wish I didn’t have to take
In order to live.
I can’t produce myself,
instead I need to feed on your energy.”
And so he feeds on the deer.

The deer agrees, as he speaks to plants,
“I wish I didn’t have to take,
But I do,
And so I’ll try my best to do so honorably.”
And he feeds on the plants

The plant, she agrees.
She wishes she could live on her own energy.
But instead she must take the energy of the sun.
And asks to hold herself to the highest standard:
To do so honorably.
As she feeds on the sun’s rays.

The sun, he agrees.
He wishes he could power himself
But instead he relies on nuclear fusion,
Converting hydrogen into helium.
And so he tries his best to take honorably
And thanks Hydrogen for her gift.

Hydrogen, she agrees.
She knows her energy comes from an entity,
An entity she knows well,
though we humans don’t know her name.
And she tries her best to take honorably.
And she thanks the unknown entity.

The unknown entity, she agrees.
She feels and knows
That her power doesn’t come only from within.
She thanks the many entities that power her.
She thanks them and tries her best to take honorably.
She thanks the spirit of the wolf.
She takes and is thankful.
